Net Net (NCAV) Stock Screeners

I am going to give up the best net current asset value (NCAV) stock screeners I know, but it is really a plea to find new ones, because the one’s I know have become either dated, less relevant, or are not cheap. But Net Net’s are increasingly difficult to find. And the ones that do appear are usually heavily laden with large inventories that may or may not be easy to liquidate if necessary.
First, for the beginning investors, I will describe a stock screener. As it’s name implies a stock screen sifts through stocks and winnows the wheat from the chaff. On a good one, you get to decide what is chaff and what is wheat. On the less than great ones, the you are told what is wheat and chaff.
Free
If you are looking for a free Net Net screen then start with The Graham investor. I have spoken about this site before but it has been recently updated and they have divided the Net Net screen into two. One based on float and the other based on shares outstanding (these are the Graham Investor’s descriptions not mine) This is a good starting place, but in the past you would find that many of the tickers listed are not actually Net Net stocks. I will investigate to see if the redesign of the website means better information.
Paid
Gurufocus has a good NCAV screen. But it costs $249/year. This fee also includes an even better newsletter that catches stocks, particularly foreign stocks, that do not make their screen. Of course gurufocus is known for tracking Investment “Guru’s” and their trading activities, but that seem the least interesting part of what they do.
I have discovered other Net net screens, one that also tracks European stocks, seems not be updated very often and my repeated attempts to ask them questions has resulted in no response. Other screens have been discontinued, or are not updated at all. If you know of another Net Net Screen please post a note or send me an email.
