Free Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) Spreadsheet for Mac
Posted on | November 27, 2009 | No Comments
I promised a couple of readers a version of the DCF Spreadsheet I use to help evaluate long term picks. I decided to offer it to anyone who can use it, i.e. Mac users only. You may be able to convert this to PC, I am not sure, but you will have to input ALL the data. Remember, if you use the free DCF spreadsheet do not base any investment decisions solely on a spreadsheet. Often the numbers will need to be tweaked to get a more accurate result. If you use it please let me know if it was helpful and especially if you find any problems, which I will correct as quickly as possible. In my full blow version I have other elements that I may release in a premium version later, including a Piotroski and Altman Z score as well as models that include variations on other valuation methods, most of which I am still refining. More about this in a separate Post.
Brief Directions:
Note this is for year end 2009, so it is more immediately useful for companies that have completed fiscal 2009. But rather than offer two versions (2008& 2009), I thought I would offer one that was useful longer without tinkering. It is designed to be used in conjunction with Morningstar’s presentation of financials. You should always adjust the numbers from the actual 10Q or 10K. But this is a good start.
Small adjustments i.e. shorter past periods 7 years or 5 years require many changes, which I have not yet detailed.
On the My numbers tab, inputs are yellow. Hover over the cell and a dialog box will instruct you.
On the Statements tab, inputs are two shades of yellow to avoid confusion at input stage.
On the Valuation Ratios tab, there is a lot of information, much of which I don’t use in this version of the spreadsheet, but you may fine useful for other applications. This is also where you will need to go if you figure out how to adjust the cells referenced in the DCF Valuations tab, if you need to alter number of years tracked in the past or year end dates.
On the DCF Valution tab, no inputs are necessary unless you are making changes to year end dates or other adjustments.
Good luck!
