A Premium Service worth checking out – Guru Focus

In a recent post on premium services, I referred to a pay service that I am checking out but have not yet committed to.
One of the premium services that I have subscribed to is GuruFocus. The site is known for tracking the trades of famous and the not so famous, but perhaps, interesting investment “guru’s” such as Buffett, Soros, and Klarman. I am not much of a follower. If you are a value investor you are probably by nature also slightly contrarian. Of course, if the numbers add up for you it doesn’t hurt to have a Seth Klarman or Marty Whitman on your side. And I will analyze some companies that one the greats is interested in. I found Facet Biotech (FACT) this way and profited more than 70%.
But to repeat that is not why I paid up the hefty price (for a small time or beginning investor) of $299, no, I subscribed largely for their Net Net stock screener and lately for the Ben Graham Net Net monthly newsletter (which is available separately form the more expensive premium service for $99). I am very interested in Finding Net Net stocks. You might ask yourself, as I did initially, what is the point of a newsletter when you can use their online screener. . The newsletter out has a special and very relevant added value. It includes foreign stocks that do not get included in their online screener. Last month they included Qiao Xing Mobile Comm Co. (QXM) which was trading then for just $2.89/ share. Within days of the newsletter it was over $4.00. It closed today at $4.64. I was too late for this investment opportunity.
As with anything online, your mileage may vary. I will be discussing a potential Net Net stock over the next several posts the source of which was the Guru Focus Ben Graham Newsletter.
